Diastolic vs. systolic blood pressure

Three decades ago there was a study conducted on the systolic and the diastolic pressure of blood which showed that the risk of cardiovascular diseases are more when there is an increase in the systolic pressure of blood. Until 1993 this study was proved to be the only study in this field and no further attempts were done to ensure the result, but in 1993 there was a report by the fifth joint united states committee of high blood pressure treatment which showed that alone the systolic high blood pressure hypertension is the sole criteria to limit the blood pressure range in a person. So it also affects our ability to decrease the blood pressure level.

The variability of the systolic blood measurement shows clearly the results and effects it has over the heart diseases and disorders. There are certain risk factors that are associated with the systolic pressure of blood. In a study that was conducted by Framingham heart institute the report showed that 99% of the people whose systolic bloods pressure was noted were easily diagnosed for heart diseases where as only 66% were easily diagnosed when their diastolic blood pressure was measured.

When the isolated systolic pressure of blood was checked then these results were obtained, isolated systolic blood pressure is when the systolic blood pressure is above 140mm of Hg. This isolated measurement problem of blood pressure is more prevalent in elderly people.

While in people who are around 50 years old their systolic blood pressure is far more important to diagnose any heart disease than diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is helpful in diagnosing the ventricle malfunctioning, heart failure, coronary diseases in heart and also renal failure. After a person reaches the age of 60 years the diastolic blood pressure plays more important role.

The age related changes are certain in people at an elderly age, this can be due to the systolic hyperextension in the body. Younger people have flexible aorta so they do not face such problems related to the contraction or arteries while the elderly faces such problems. So there is a continuous fluctuation in the systolic blood pressure. Diastolic blood pressure also gets affected with the person’s age and thus causes other disorders in the body. The blood pressure varies in the person’s body. There is a risk of ventricular dystrophy of the left ventricle when there is an increase in the systolic pressure of blood.

On the contrary if there is a decrease in the diastolic pressure of blood then there are chances of developing the disorder of flow of coronary blood. The increased in systolic blood pressure and the widening of the pulse in the body also results in the developing the other coronary heart disorders in the body. The pulse rate may decrease due to this widening causing further problem of heart. Lowering down the systolic blood pressure should be an important goal in the person’s mind so as to reduce such problems in the body.

There are well known benefits of treating the systolic pressure of blood there are increase in the heart condition, decreased renal failure and even decrease in the mortality rate. There are evidences to support this fact, whenever there was a reduction in the systolic pressure of blood to around 20mm of Hg, and then 50% reduction was noticed in the heart failure disease while 16% of reduction was noted in coronary heart failure. There are no such noted benefits in the clinical field after treating the condition of systolic blood pressure. There have been no clinical trials that were able to control the increase in the systolic pressure of blood.

There has always been difficulty for the doctors to control the systolic blood pressure in the body; there has been no clinical methods that have brought down the systolic blood pressure less than 140mm. there are certain drugs and diuretics that have proved really beneficial in controlling the systolic pressure of blood at times. These are dihydropyridine calcium an antagonist which was tested beneficial for such disorders. It was found very useful in placebo treatment and even blood pressure control. These were quite helpful in hypertension treatment and also used in increasing the potassium concentration in the body. There are a few other diuretics too that are used to enhance the efficacy of blood pressure there are certain lowering agents also that are constantly being used by doctors to reduce the risk of ischemic strokes in the body, these are used to achieve the targets of blood pressure controls in the body. These can reduce the diastolic and the systolic pressure of blood in the body.

There are certain other types of effects that really affect the blood pressure changes in the body. These are the lifestyle modification changes that affect the individual’s blood pressure. Checking and keeping the salt intake in the body under the level of 80mm per day can reduce the systolic blood pressure in the body. Combination of salt control along with the blood pressure control also helps in decreasing the pressure of blood. So applying such restrictions on oneself and exercising too can reduce the blood pressure to a very high extent.

Isolated form of systolic hypertension seems to be the most common and the most dangerous form of hypertension in individuals. There have been lots of examples and evidences that have shown the patients recovering from such disorder fast and well on time. there has to be a set plan and appropriate focus on controlling the blood pressure so as to maintain the best possible level of fitness.
